I know, you've all been dying for an Amiibo update from Jen. The wait is over!
Can't wait for the next wave . I just love these things, obviously. As you can see, I got two of the four Zelda amiibos (and yes, I'm saying amiibos even though the plural is "amiibo"), and I got two Captain Falcons (finally). It took lots of driving around and both my mom and I looking for wave two and some arguing with Best Buy (on two occasions), but I finally got those taken care of (Diddy was the most troublesome--I passed on buying him when I hadn't decided to buy them all). At launch, I passed over Villager and Wii Fit Trainer at Wal-Mart but finally just went ahead and bought them when I noticed there were only a couple left. Best Buy "lost" my Marth on launch day, but I also bought him at Wal-Mart. The rest are from Loot Crate and pre-orders.
As far as the exclusives, I had Shulk and Meta Knight preordered because I knew by Wave 3 this was serious business. Rosalina and Lucario on the other hand resulted in an early morning adventure on release date.
My dad and I (he always goes with me on these adventures) set out for Target. Seeing no one in line, we swung by Starbucks and then went back to find eight people in line. O.O. We hustled into line, and it wasn't long before a Target employee came outside and started handing out numbers for the 12 Rosalinas they had. My dad and I were numbers 9 and 10 (obviously) and there was one guy behind us. A group at the front of the line had seen someone they knew pull in to the parking lot way earlier and had been talking and laughing about him sitting in his car to stay warm until the store opened (and talking nonstop about anything as loudly as possible the entire time). When there was one ticket left, another guy pulled into the parking lot and was hurrying to park and get in line, so the group at the front sent one of their buddies running to tell their friend to come get in line. He got out and started running and the new guy ran, too, but the guy that had been sitting in his car beat him and the new guy turned to leave. The group of friends was cheering that their buddy got there, so my dad looked at me and I agreed. My dad got out of line and gave his ticket to the other guy, who was so super appreciative. And that's why I don't have two Rosalinas when she's probably my favorite amiibo, but I feel like it was worth it. Plus, Target only had four Toon Links and I got the last one
After that, it was off to Toys R Us. Here, we were first in line. A super-made-up mom tried to cut line (Lol, that didn't happen--in case we haven't met, I'm Jen. I kill line-jumpers). As soon as the doors opened, everyone wanted to run. My dad told me to run, go, leave him behind lol. So I burst in and kinda spread out my arms and held them up and I "announced" to all the employees gathered at the front door, "Is someone in the video game department?" A guy, who I've interacted with a lot before, raised his hand. And I said, "Lucario amiibo?" He said, "Yup." and hopped off the counter he was sitting on. I followed close behind him (with the mob nipping at my heels). He checked the shelves, and they didn't have any Lucarios. I told him they weren't supposed to be out until today, and he said their street date said January 30th (a couple days before) but he'd check in the back. He checked their stock, and they didn't have any. He said, "Let me check one more thing." and went into another room. I waited closely at the door, and he came out with a Lucario with a note. He said, "Did you preorder?" I told him no. He took the note off and said, "Well, an employee took this one off the floor and put a note on it, and we're not allowed to do that. They can just get mad." I thanked him profusely, checked out, and ran outta there, I didn't grab my shoes or nothin', Jesus--needless to say, the others were not happy at the moment.
The rest isn't much of a story, I had all of Wave 3 preordered at Gamestop--they did neglect to call and tell me Shulk was in; I called in and found out he was there. I have missed out on the gold Mario amiibo preorders, so that will be my next adventure (I do not predict it to be as successful, as Wal-Mart, while generally the happiest place on earth to me, never has a clue about what's going on with anything as far as upcoming games and even being able to tell you when to line up for launches).
While the amiibos have been the main treasure I've been seeking in my excursions, I've also dabbled in the Jakks Pacific Nintendo toys. I haven't bought the Mario playsets or coin racers, but I've been on the hunt for the figurines.
It took me forever to find Link. I refused to pay a ton on eBay, so I checked Toys R Us almost every day. And lo and behold, one day, there he was. The only one. Meant for me. The toy, I mean, of course. *cough*.
I also had a hard time finding the Bowser deluxe figure (when I eventually decided to buy it; I passed a few times beforehand), but again Toys R Us came to the front and ordered him for me.
I became aware of the existence of old, fat Ganny in 2.5" form. In-store searching was fruitless (as it was for Toon Link, who I got on eBay). For old, fat Ganny, I was helpless but to pay more on eBay. Luckily, I have the next few figures preordered.
Now all I lack is Waluigi for the current wave. I will probably continue lacking him unless I happen across him. He's not old, fat Ganny, so there will be no paying extra on eBay.
If you've seen my other blogs with pictures of my room and stuff, you may know I love these little static-clingy posters. Wal-Mart had this one, and the girl working there let me have it .
Of course I had to get the collector's guide for Majora's Mask to go with the others ($20 preorder on Amazon, woo!). It's just a slightly different shade than the Ocarina of Time guide's purple. It seems well-written (Steve Stratton does a lot of the guides and this one he did on his own), not a lot of ancillary stuff (comments on the story, etc.), but you never know until you use it--which I will do soon. The static clings it came with are really neat, but of course I would have preferred a cloth map of Termina. Those cloth maps are absolutely one of my favorite collectables.
Just about the only reason I haven't played yet is because I really wanted to download the game, but I'm debating on not trading in the physical copy so my little cousins can play it without having to use my system. We shall see.
This Skull Kid figure. Omg. This Skull Kid figure. It is amazingly well done and quite hefty; worth way more than the extra ten bucks for the bundle with the game.

Also, still debating on the scent this game shall have. Thank you if you know what the heck I'm talking about, for you are a true friend.
So that's it, I suppose. The takeaway here:
1) You don't have to outgrow toys and video games.
2) I have a shopping addiction.
3) Any price is a worth it for old, fat Ganny. Also, Nintendo, if you don't give me a God-danged Ganondorf amiibo, I'm going to explode. I have nothing of him from Twilight Princess, and you are killing me with that nonsense.
Lemme know what amiibos y'all have gotten ahold of and what you think of them or if anyone else has gotten any of the Jakks toys. Thanks for reading
